The blessings of a small town

I've said it a zillion times and I'll keep saying it --- the greatest part about living in a small town in the community!  Rob got scheduled last minute for a four day cross country flight to California this weekend.  I was totally bummed and hate being home by myself.  Plus I've been totally spoiled and he hasn't been away overnight, besides duty, since the detachment to Alpena.  I didn't have high hopes but the weekend actually turned out to be a great one!  Instead of hunkering down with Netflix and wine like usual, my days were filled with some much needed girl time.

On Saturday, Kyleigh and I woke up early and made the 1.5 hour drive to the big city (Jackson).  We had empty coolers packed in the car (for our grocery haul!) and big shopping goals.  Thank goodness this girl likes to shop like I do because we spent almost 12 hours shopping in Jackson!  Target, Starbucks, the outlets, and of course, the main attraction: Whole Foods.  We had tacos and tableside guac at Babalu for lunch and kind of forget that we weren't back in Northern Virginia!

On Sunday, some of the local girls who are in my 21 Day Fix challenge group came over to do some yoga and have brunch (21 Day Fix approved, of course!)  I made sweet potato and chorizo hash (so delish), cinnamon raisin ezekiel french toast (I had big expectations but this recipe needs a little tweaking), and fruit and greek yogurt parfaits.  It was such a fun morning and something we need to do more often!

On Monday night, I got fro-yo with Nikki, Cara, and Rachel and then watched The Bachelor at Nikki's house.  Perfect girls night (and made me much less sad that Rob wasn't there for our usual Monday nights!)  Tuesday, the VT-7 officers spouses club had a social at Weidmann's.  Blair, Kyleigh and I went for a couple glasses of wine and ended up staying to play trivia.  I'm pretty sure Tuesday night trivia might have to be a new tradition!  This weekend was perfect proof that its the people, not the place, that make a duty station!

  1. It's always fun to hang with the girls when the husband goes out of town! I do love alone time, though, so I have spent many of those times alone with a book, Netflix, and wine! Getting out with friends is a ton of fun too, though! :)
